EV Summit 2023

The TSU's Dr Hannah Budnitz presented on a panel with English local government officers from Oxford City, Solihull in the West Midlands and Suffolk County discussing electric mobility opportunities and approaches. Whilst the other panellists focused on how different EV charging solutions could meet the diverse needs of their communities, Budnitz drew on findings from the ITEM project to highlight the importance of expanding EV rhetoric beyond serving private cars. She highlighted the decarbonisation strategies being employed to expand electric public and shared transport, Zero Emission Zone policies, and the wide range of vehicle types that are needed to meet urban logistics challenges, from e-bikes to vans. The organisers reported that the key takeaway was to consider how a holistic approach, where cars are part of the wider e-mobility ecosystem, could be essential to hitting decarbonisation, business and inclusion goals. The panel was followed by a side event for local and national policymakers and businesses to ask the panellists questions and discuss their own electric mobility experiences.
